The Faceless Old Woman from Welcome to Night Vale is often depicted with a flat face, akin to a blank canvas (similar to Slenderman). However, I was particularly drawn to the interpretation in the official book illustration by Jessica Hayworth, where she is portrayed with an empty hole instead. Borrowing this concept, I decided to give her a more grandmotherly appearance, incorporating references to her mayoral candidacy from Season 2 of the podcast.
After finishing the Faceless Old Woman painting and, inspired by the finale of Season 2, 'Old Oak Doors,' I created a piece depicting an angel entering the empty desert through one of the old oak doors. You may notice the influence of Neon Genesis Evangelion in the angel's design, making this piece an homage to both Night Vale and EVA—two of my favorite pieces of media ever made.
